Central Administration of BAS

Meeting Venue – Headquarters of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is the oldest institution in modern Bulgaria. The Headquarters of BAS is located in one of the most iconic and historically important buildings in central Sofia at 1 “15th November” Street. Situated near the former edifice of the National Assembly, the majestic St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the building forms part of a landmark ensemble in the city’s architectural and cultural core. Built in the early 20th century, the building features Neoclassical architectural elements that reflect the drive for modernity and institutional identity following the Liberation of Bulgaria. It stands as a lasting symbol of commitment to scientific progress and cultural development during a defining period in national history.

Today, the distinguished edifice serves as the headquarters of BAS, accommodating the central administration and several coordinating units that oversee scientific activities across BAS institutes and throughout the country. Besides its administrative function, the building also provides a prestigious setting for leadership meetings, official ceremonies, academic conferences and visits by international delegations. This dual role as working headquarters and a ceremonial venue makes it an ideal place for events of national and international importance.

Marin Drinov Hall

Marin Drinov Hall

The Marin Drinov Hall is among the most distinguished and frequently used representative spaces in the Headquarters building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Named in honor of Academician Marin Drinov, the first president of the Bulgarian Literary Society (the predecessor of BAS) and a key figure of the Bulgarian National Revival, the hall reflects historical legacy and intellectual stature. With its refined atmosphere, historical character and versatile functionality, Marin Drinov Hall is a preferred venue for scientific and cultural events that show the role of BAS as a leading scientific, spiritual and expert center in Bulgaria.
